The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has mandated that every insurance policy be linked to the individual responsible for its sale, effective January 1, 2027, according to reports from the Financial Express and ET Now on August 1.

Under the IRDAI (Insurance Intermediaries) (Amendment) Regulations, 2026, every proposal form, policy document and certificate of insurance must carry the details of the intermediary or authorised salesperson who solicited the policy, along with the mobile number and email address of the branch through which it was sold. For policies bought directly through an intermediary's digital platform, the Principal Officer's contact details must be disclosed.

The regulator also introduced a structured No Objection Certificate (NOC) mechanism: if an existing employer neither issues an NOC nor objects within 30 days, the NOC is deemed granted. The tagging requirement applies to corporate agents, insurance brokers, insurance marketing firms, web aggregators and CPSC special-purpose vehicles.
